When Lance Armstrong and Marco Pantani went head to head on Mont Ventoux in the 2000 Tour de France we were unaware that both of them doped during their careers.
At the time both were champions in their own right. Pantani had won the Tour de France in 1998 and Armstrong had clinched the title the following year.
They may have crossed the line together at the top of the mountain but their careers spiralled in wildly opposite directions.
The American giant won seven consecutive Tour de France titles. The little Italian died of a cocaine overdose alone in a hotel bedroom.
Armstrong denied, lied and cheated where Pantani was caught.
You can experience the restaging of this dramatic battle at the Lincoln Drill Hall on June 17th starting at 7.30 pm.
