Thoughts of Big Sam after Saturday’s defeat to Stamford

The Whites went down 1-0 to Stamford on Saturday in a game that should have resulted in a draw. Here are the thoughts of boss Big Sam Wilkinson.

I am obviously disappointed with the loss.

We had our best spell in the second half but they scored on the break which was a bit disappointing.

The first half was pretty even for the first 25 minutes. I thought we had a couple of half chances, I thought they had a couple of half chances.

I thought they were the better side going into half-time.

We had to defend well, which we did do. It was more pressure from them though they didn’t really open us up.

I was pleased with how we kept it tight.

We just couldn’t find the goal in the second half.

We were really naïve with their goal. We had a warning a minute before. It was a shocking goal. That was ultimately the difference.

We contributed massively to their goal.

We created enough opportunities to score but you’ve got to give credit to Stamford.

Their keeper made a couple of good saves, they defended their box pretty well and they certainly secured the midfield better than we did.

It was a good game but it was Stamford who kept a clean sheet.

I am happy with the level of performance and if we play like that we will win more than we lose.”
