The Thoughts of Big Sam after Alvechurch Defeat

Here is what Whites’ boss, Big Sam Wilkinson thought about his side’s 3-2 defeat at high-flying Alvechurch last Saturday in the Evo-Stik South League.

He said: “Saturday was a very good performance.

We didn’t start the game well and contributed to both of their early goals which is not acceptable.

However we did show great character, spirit, grit and determination by not rolling over. We got back into the game which we definitely deserved something from.

Their third goal had a bit of fortune about it for the ball to fall back to their lad but he did hit it well.

It’s another step in the right direction and as a squad we actually played better than we did at Loughborough the other week.

The individual level of performance was there for all to see which has been called into question this season.

However we do make mistakes early in games. We do not start well enough and lack consistency. We don’t do the basics well enough.

But I know when we get a settled back four that will come and if we play like we did on Saturday we are going to win more games than we will lose so there are lots of positives to take into this Saturday’s game.

We have had one home game in seven which to me doesn’t seem right.

I am still confident we can put a run together and start climbing the table.

We were in a similar situation this time last year.

There are lots of points to play for and there is still a long way to go.”
