Lincoln United started the new campaign with a 3-1 victory at Chasetown FC. This is what boss Sam Wilkinson thought about his team’s fine performance.
“I am delighted with the result and the all round performance.
“In the first half we weren’t exactly free-flowing but we were very efficient.
“We were delighted to go in 1-0 up at half-time.
“During the first 10 minutes of the second half we weren’t as strong as I would have liked but after that I thought we were a different class at times.
“Jake Turner made good saves at key times and just after they scored we went straight from the kick-off and hit back.
“There wasn’t a great deal between the two teams though I thought we were better than Chasetown in the final third.
“Everyone worked really hard. It was good to see our flair players doing the horrible side of the game.
“I thought Andy Toyne was outstanding.
“Defensively we were very good. We limited them to long range shots.
“In fact, they didn’t open us up that much.
“Going the other way, Jack, Ben, Conner and ‘Cotts’ proved what a strike force they all are.
“Sometimes in the past we have tended to overplay which might look good on the eye but didn’t tend to hurt the opposition.
“In this league you are not going to make twenty passes to score a goal. It might only be two or three and that could be enough.
“We can only come away with positives.
“Everyone was superb. We worked hard and played with flair when attacking.
“Overall, I am obviously delighted with the all round performance.”
