Lincoln united thrashed lower league Collingham 9-1 last night in their fifth pre-season friendly.

Whites’ boss Sam Wilkinson told me: “I thought we were sloppy at times in the first half although we had a 20 minute spell where we were very good especially when we got it to our strikers’ feet.

“We got caught up a little bit in pre-season mode where we slowed it down and passed it sideways.

“However we addressed that at half time and the lads responded really well raising the tempo a lot higher and passing it forward into the strikers.

“This brought us success.

“The score-line might suggest it wasn’t a good workout but it was exactly what we wanted.

“Collingham gave us a good game in the first half but tired in the end though never gave up.

“After a really tough schedule it was good for the players to dominate possession and get lots of touches on the ball.

“We got what we wanted from the game.”
