Lincoln United relinquished their grip on the Lincolnshire FA Senior Cup last night after going down 1-0 to Boston United.
In an open, entertaining game, the Pilgrims scraped home after Rotherham United youngster Mason Warren decided the tie on the hour with a sweet left foot strike.
Whites’ boss Sam Wilkinson said: “It was a great work-out for us, perfect to work on our shape and our discipline when not in possession of the ball.
“I thought we did that really well and limited them to a few chances so I was very pleased with the defensive display.
“I thought we passed it a lot better than we did on Saturday and were busier and brighter in possession.
“We still need to improve on going forward as we did not create enough chances.
“However, facing a team like Boston you are not going to get many goal scoring opportunities against a side from that level.
“I came away with lots of positives.
“There’s also lots of work we can do in training and in the games coming up.
“It’s been a good start and it’s still very early in pre-season.
“We need to be fitter and sharper but that will come.
“We will be ready for the start of the season.”
