Lincoln United finished the 2016-17 campaign with a 4-1 defeat at Romulus FC and so finished a very creditable eighth place in the Evo-Stik Division One (South) League.
SportsLinc caught up with Whites’ boss Big Sam Wilkinson to get his thoughts of his first year in charge down at Ashby Avenue.
He said:”The season has been great and one I will remember for a long time.
“To win a trophy at the club was fantastic especially when you consider the teams we had to beat to reach the final.
“We had great runs in the FA Trophy and FA Cup.
“To play at grounds like Kidderminster and to beat Nuneaton were special days for the club and for me personally.
“When we look back we are a little disappointed with our final position in the League but losing key players at key times killed off our hopes of making the play-offs.
“Two wins in January would have meant reaching the top five but it wasn’t to be.
“But I can’t fault anyone at the club.
“The volunteers , the Board and especially the players have shown commitment and a great attitude.
“We have a very good bunch of young players and that’s what gives me so much confidence going into next year.
“If we can add a little more experience I believe we can challenge again at the top end of the table.”
