THE THOUGHTS OF BIG SAM

Lincoln United kept their hopes of a top five finish alive after taking a well-deserved point at Leek Town yesterday.

SportsLinc caught up with Whites’ boss Big Sam Wilkinson to get his thoughts on the game.

He said: “It was a great game and a great advert for non-League football.

“We started very well and deserved our lead. Then they had a spell when we sat off them and made it too easy for them at times.

“Their goal came from a sloppy error which 99 times out of a hundred we wouldn’t have made and we were punished for that mistake.

“When we passed the ball and switched play we looked dangerous and were able to open them up.

“That’s what happened with our second goal. It was a great bit of football and a great finish.

“However we conceded straight after which is always disappointing but to be fair, they scored a great individual goal which we couldn’t do a lot about.

“It turned out to be a frustrating first half because we were drawn into playing the game at their tempo.

“We addressed that at the break and told the lads to up the tempo to our normal pace.

“They did that superbly well and gave it everything to try and win.

“Their keeper made three good saves in addition to preventing one shot heading towards the top corner.

“I couldn’t ask any more from the lads and I was very proud of the way they kept going.

“They were out on their feet at the end and were disappointed with the draw because we thought we should have won.

“All in all it’s a good point away from home and even if we don’t make the play-offs it won’t be down to yesterday’s result.

“We  have a chance though we still need someone to slip up.

“We are staying positive because anything can happen especially in this league.

“We will go into tomorrow’s game full of confidence after what was a great second half performance.”
