Football oozes emotion.
The highs and lows of the beautiful game were on full display at Sincil Bank yesterday when the Imps fought back from being a goal down to snatch all three points and extend their lead at the top of the National League after overcoming a spirited Torquay United 2-1 in front of a raucous crowd of 9,000 spectators reared on high expectations.
Resilience and guts were the qualities needed by Danny Cowley’s men after the visitors took the lead late on in what was a pulsating game.
The sound of silence was deafening when Torquay went ahead.
It didn’t last long.
Urged on by a fervent capacity crowd the Imps fought back with goals from Anderson and Habergham to give the home fans something extra to sing about.
Games don’t come much tougher than this and credit to Lincoln City for showing the resolve and determination to maintain the top spot in the table and extend their lead to five points with four fixtures left.
It wasn’t pretty to watch. Sometimes in football you have to win against all the odds.
Danny Cowley’s outfit proved that winning is ugly is more than acceptable.
The focus now turns to Gateshead on Monday.
Clever rotation by Danny and Nicky will allow their leg-weary warriors the opportunity to reach greater heights.
The squad they have put together is not only talented in the way they play the game.
They know how to fight and stick together when the going gets tough and believe me it was tough yesterday.
But when the going gets tough…….well you know the rest.
