THE THOUGHTS OF BIG SAM

Lincoln United came within touching distance of the top five teams in the Evo-Stik Division One (South) League after a glorious 2-0 win at Newcastle Town last night.

SportsLinc caught up with Whites’ boss Big Sam Wilkinson today to get his thoughts on the match.

He said: “It was a great win and a great performance from everyone.

“We asked the lads to show more fight than they did on Saturday.

“We also asked them for that bit extra for the key moments in the game especially when defending as well as attacking.

“We did that at a key time just before the break when Kallum Smith produced a piece of individual brilliance with a great goal.

“We deserved the lead and asked the lads to stay on the front-foot and not sit back.

“However it didn’t work out that way.

“Newcastle came out flying so we had to be at our best defensively with Jake Turner in goal performing at a very high level.

“In key moments we needed to give our defence a break and up stepped skipper Sean Wright to do just that with a finish that not many central defenders would have attempted.

“Wrighty played a good one-two with fellow central partner James Blunden to then lob the keeper from the edge of the box with a top-class strike.

“After that goal we kept our shape really well and limited them to only one chance.

“It was a great all round performance and result.

“We will need more of the same at Leek Town on Saturday.

“We have certainly given ourselves a chance.”

ALWAYS LOOK ON THE WHITE SIDE OF LIFE.
