Lincoln United’s hopes of reaching the play-offs in the Evo-Stik Division One (South) suffered a setback on  when they went down 2-0 to promotion-chasing rivals Stocksbridge Park Steels at the Sun Hat Villas stadium on Saturday.

Sportslinc caught up with Whites’ boss Big Sam Wilkinson to get his thoughts on the game.

He said: ” We are still in there fighting but on Saturday we didn’t show we were up for the fight.

“We just didn’t turn up which is hard to explain.

“It was a very tight game and I think if we had gone one nil up we would have won because there were very few chances in the game.

“We actually had two chances in the space of a few seconds but their keeper made a good save then they cleared one off the line after some great defending.

“We didn’t show enough quality to equalise and really didn’t deserve to get anything out of the game.

“We now have got it all to do and it will take something special but things in football and especially in this league can change so quickly.

“The top teams have still to play each other.

“We just need to get our own house in order and get three points tomorrow night at Newcastle Town.

“It’s still all to play for and I am still positive we can do it.

“Our next two away games on paper look difficult but we will go there with no fear.

“However we need to show more spirit and fight than we did on Saturday if we want to do it.”
