RUGBY: LINCOLN THIRD XV MATCH REPORT

McConnell try unable to prevent defeat

LINCOLN 3RD XV 5
NORTH HYKEHAM 2ND XV 45

BY JOSEPH VERNEY

A try from Rory McConnell was not enough to prevent Lincoln’s 3rd XV from going down to a 45-5 home defeat against North Hykeham.

The visitors scored four tries to race into a commanding 26-0 lead at the break.

However Lincoln reduced the deficit within six minutes of the restart winning  the lineout and creating a maul before the ball was worked out to Euan Kelly.

He drew in a Hykeham player before passing to McConnell who powered through three defenders to run over for a try.

But there was to be no comeback as North Hykeham regained control with a further three tries to complete the victory for the visitors.

Lincoln also lost Daryl Wright to injury during the match and the team wish him a speedy recovery.

After the match co-captain Adam Kelleher said: “Poor decisions by the ref cost us, but overall a good showing against a very strong team with a man of the match performance from Nick Koppanen.”
