Lincoln United increased their chances of reaching the play-offs after defeating fourth-placed Newcastle Town 2-1 at the Sun Hat Villas yesterday.
SportsLinc caught up with Whites’ boss Sam Wilkinson for his views on the game.
He said: “It was a brilliant result.
“We started the game really well and played some very good football on a difficult pitch.
“The first goal was a touch of class.
“A great move involving Sean Wright, Kallum Smith and Conner Robinson ended with an excellent finish by Rob Norris.
“We then missed two very good chances.
“Newcastle then got a goal out of nothing. It was a poor goal to concede.
“We became sloppy but credit must go to a very good Newcastle side for making things difficult for us.
“The second half wasn’t pretty and we were nowhere near our usual high standards but we dug in and defended very well showing the grit and determination that has never been in question in this team.
“We just kept going. I didn’t see the goal coming to be honest but when you have a player like Conner Robinson in top form you always have a chance and he took his goal so well.
“It was a massive win for us and keeps our play-off hopes alive.
“We now must go to Kidsgrove on Tuesday to try to keep winning or at least keep picking up points to keep the pressure on teams above us.”
