So tonight saw us hit the ¾ mark of the Notts league prem with match 15 of the season. Tonight was likely to be a tricky affair between ourselves and Ghostboasters (2nd / 3rd in the league respectively). Following on from back to back wins we went into the game with the team in decent form and looking to keep the pressure on the league leaders who are taking a week off (allegedly) as the star player Rich Underhill is tied up on ‘carer duties’ with Phil Roberts’ 🙂 With that we lined up as follows:

Harry Falconer vs Declan Mckeever
Peter Dickinson vs Will Swaithes
Dom Price vs Kieran Muldoon
Neil Carlin vs Matt King
Me vs Andy Hopwood

On first were 4/5’s, I didn’t see any of Neil’s game as I was engaged in a bit of a battle on the other court although Neil was always the red hot favourite vs Matt and made light work of it taking the match 3-0 with game scores of 11-6 / 11-3 / 11-7. Not pant splatting nicks tonight but it’s all about the win / points after all.

On the other court myself and Andy were engaged in a bit of a battle with both playing well in patches and iffy in other patches. I took the first 11-9 then switched of from 7-7 in the 2nd to put us a 1-1. Into the 3rd things started getting better with me taking a tight game 11-8. Into the 4th I dominated the early stages but literally blew it at 10-8 to go down 12-10 and set up a 5th. Andy rocketed out the blocks going 5-0 up before I came back but at 9-9 I dropped a couple of mistakes in to give Andy the match.

On the other court Harry had gone on after Neil and dispatched his opponent in super quick fashion (before I’d finished) – after a tight 1st (12-10) harry shifted through the gears to take the 2nd 11-6 and the 3rd 11-0. another good shirt from our talisman who will likely face tougher tests in the coming weeks.

With the match poised at 2-1 to the Eastgate Dom and Pete took to the court looking to find a bit of form and neither disappointed, Dom looked like he was reaping the rewards of a few tune-up matches and played the best squash I’ve seen him play for a while and ran out a comfortable 3-0 win against a tricky opponent 11-8 / 11-1 / 11-6. On the other court Pete looked in decent nick and despite losing the 2nd moved up through the gears to take the 3rd / 4th comfortably for a 3-1 win (12-10 / 9-11 / 11-6 / 11-4) to give us a decent 4-1 win (19-4) with his great short game returning with pretty much every drop shot hitting the nick!

Following from the match we tucked in to some sausage casserole / jacket potatoes combo courtesy of Simon Taylor which was well received.

To ‘coin a Danny Cowley’ phrase our biggest game of the season is our next game and our forces turns to our top of the table clash next Monday away against the talented and respected Decathlon David Lloyd. It’s a huge challenge for us but one that we will be ready for (as I’m sure they will).

A couple of members have asked about coming along to support the team which is great, but if anyone else is interested then please let me know and we’ll figure out the transport stuff.

Think that’s me done for tonight, good luck with your respective matches this week – and it would be good if we could hear how the high flying 2nd team got on tonight’s at their big clash with Whittaker Nomads (Dean Hiatt, Daniel Hebert)
