Lincoln United finally ended their nightmare run of seven straight defeats when they overcame Chasetown 3-1 yesterday.

SportsLinc spoke to a delighted boss Sam Wilkinson to get his thoughts on the game.

He said: “Yesterday was a great all round team performance in a game we desperately needed to win.

“We dominated the first half without really creating any clear-cut chances but always looked the more likely team to score.

“However they did have the best chance of the first half but Jake Turner made a good save.

“That was the only time we switched off before the break.

“Overall we were more solid than we have been in weeks and let them play in front of us.

“Going forward we looked very good.

“The strikers and midfield linked up very well and showed a lot of promise.

“We just lacked that final ball.

“The second half was slightly different.

“They came out with more intent which suited us even more.

“They had a good shout for a penalty but we deserved our bit of luck because we worked so hard.

“Our first two goals were a result of excellent play.

“Sean Wright played a simple but excellent pass to Matt Cotton who fed the ball through to Jack McGovern.

“Jack played a great ball across the box for Conner Robinson to score his first goal for the club.

“The same three players linked up well for goal number two .

“This time Cotton passed to Robinson who put McGovern away to make it 2-0.

“We then gave them a lift by conceding a sloppy goal and for 10 minutes it was a case of backs to the wall.

“We had to stick together and grind out a result which we eventually did.

“Our final goal again came from McGovern who chased the ball down and scored despite being dead on his feet after all the work he had put into the game.

“It was a great team performance.”
