When Lincoln United beat Rugby Town 3-1 on Tuesday evening they guaranteed their place in the top five but as yet their opponents are unknown because the other teams above them still have issues of their own to resolve.

This is where it starts to get complicated. The Ashby Avenue could actually finish fourth if they overcome Chasetown at the weekend and fourth-place Basford United lose their game.

If that happens, the Whites would play Coalville away. I did say it could take some working out.

Here is another permutation. If top-of-the-table Stafford Rangers lose and second-placed Shaw Lane Aquaforce win, Lincoln United could well face a trip to Stafford.

However if there is no change at the top, Dave Frecklington’s men will face Shaw Lane.

Just to confuse matters even further the day of the play-offs is still undecided although we do know it will be  either next Tuesday or Wednesday.

One further spanner in the works for Shaw Lane is that they play in a cup final on Tuesday evening which would mean playing the Whites the following evening.

Told you it was confusing. Fear not. Everything will be resolved one way or the other at 4.45pm on Saturday when all the teams in the Evo-Stik Division One (South) League chasing promotion will know who, where and when they will play for the right to take part in the play-off final.

Best advice? Either follow or tune into Mix and Match on Siren107.3FM between 3-5pm on Saturday.
