Lincoln United suffered a humiliating 6-0 defeat at the hands of league leaders Shaw Lane last night at the Sun Hat Villas.

SportsLinc caught up with Whites’ boss big Sam Wilkinson to get his thoughts on the match.

He said: “It was a terrible night for us.

“We warned the players about their set-pieces and about how they played and about how we wanted to play.

“They didn’t carry out the instructions given to them.

” I thought it was an even first half but the massive difference was that we didn’t defend our box well and they did.

“We conceded two terrible goals.

“I can excuse maybe conceding one but then to concede another the very next corner was a disgrace.

“Shaw Lane were everything a top side should be. They played the percentages well, did all the horrible bits very well and were clinical.

“We played like a mid-table team who had nothing to play for.

“We didn’t show any fighting spirit, desire or togetherness which has been there all season and has never been in question up until last night.

“We were a team of individuals who just played for themselves.

“But I will be putting that right.

“We must move on quickly and take any little positives from the game and grind out a result on Saturday against another top team.

“I back this bunch of players to get it right on Saturday.

“Last night has gone and we will address the players at training tomorrow night and tell them what we expect of them and what we must do moving forward.”
