A crowd of just over 5,000 supporters saw Lincoln City return to the number one spot in the National League after a very eventful 3-1 win over Guiseley this afternoon.
The visitors had two men and their manager sent off in a game which saw them take in a half-time lead of 1-0 care of a Sam Habergham own goal.
Patience had to be the watchword for Danny Cowley’s men.
The equalising goal came on the hour from an Alan Power penalty brought about by the quick feet of substitute Adam Marriott who had just replaced Theo Robinson.
A hectic last 10 minutes saw three sendings-off and two goals.
In this mad sequence of events the Guiseley striker was shown a second yellow and thus departed for an early bath.
Three minutes from time Sean Raggett scored from a pinpoint corner floated in by Sam Habergham.
Seconds later the Guiseley number three and his boss were shown red.
To round off a memorable afternoon at Sincil Bank, man-of-the-match Nathan Arnold blasted home his 10th goal of the campaign to make the final score 3-1 to the Imps.
There was more good news for Danny Cowley’s men as promotion rivals Tranmere Rovers lost 4-2 at Macclesfield and Forest Green Rovers were held to an incredible 5-5 draw by Torquay.
The Imps are two points clear of Tranmere with a game in hand and six points ahead of third-placed Forest Green.
Next stop Ipswich in the Third Round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
