Lincoln City do not need to sign anyone in January.
They are in a good place right now.
Top of the National League. Third Round of the FA Cup. Second Round of the FA Trophy.
Hopefully there will be a lot of games in addition to the National League fixtures!
However is Danny Cowley’s squad big enough to cope with the plethora of matches between now and, hopefully, mid-May?
The Imps’ boss is a fitness guru. He and brother Nicky prepared their charges at the start of the season for 60 games of football.
So fitness is not a problem.
However injuries will always happen as in the case unfortunately of Lee Beevers.
Yet I believe the Imps can still cope. If either full back suffers an injury Callum Howe can step in.
Likewise throughout the team, the necessary cover is on hand.
Yes Harry Anderson has been recalled and he will be missed but Terry Hawkridge or Jack Muldoon can step in.
The main point I would like to make is that bringing in a new signing may not work.
It takes time for a newcomer to settle into the squad.
It takes time to settle into the area.
It takes time (and hard graft) to win the support of the fans.
We all know what happened with the Tom Champion scenario.
Since then, the manager and the players haven’t looked back.
The motto for Danny and Nicky is quite simple in my view.
THE TEAM IS THE SQUAD AND THE SQUAD IS THE TEAM.
