Midfield star Andy Toyne shot Lincoln United into the second round of the Integro League Cup at the Sun Hat Villas last night.

His 30 yard effort deceived the AFC Stamford defence and gave his team a deserved 1-0 victory.

The Whites are now unbeaten in eight games and go into Saturday’s FA Trophy at Kidderminster Harriers  boosted by their recent good run of form.

Boss Sam Wilkinson said: “It was a cracking win really. I rested a few players and gave some the chance to get some minutes on the pitch.

“We were defensively superb. The back line gives us the base to go and hopefully score goals and we created enough chances in the game.

“The goal may have been slightly lucky but I thought we deserved a bit of luck because of how well we defended.

“The determination from the captain (Michael Jacklin) for me sets it all off. He doesn’t have a bad game week in and week out.

“He is backed up by Callum Ward who has really grown in stature this season.

“All the lads put a shift in once again and everyone one of them gave 100%.

“Stamford had a lot of the ball especially in the second half but I thought we defended our box really well.

“It will be a similar situation at Kidderminster on Saturday. We will be doing lots of defending and our backs will be against the wall.

“We know we will be underdogs but we are going to give it everything we have got.

“We have nothing to lose. We will go out there and play with pride and passion.

“If we play at our best and they have a bit of an off day we have got a chance.

“It’s going to be tough but we have been there earlier in the season at Nuneaton and in the County Cup.

“We might need a bit of luck. We may need something special on the day.

“But we can definitely do it.”
