Lincoln United can do no wrong at the moment.

A crushing 2-0 win over AFC Rushden and Diamonds in the FA Trophy replay on Tuesday was followed by a 4-1 hammering of Gresley FC in the league yesterday.

SportsLinc caught up with Whites’ boss Sam Wilkinson to get his thoughts about the Gresley game.

He said: “We were clinical in the first half although we weren’t at our best.

“However we went in at half-time 3-1 up.

“We stood off them and didn’t get tight enough all over the pitch.

“Then Luke Hornsey played a great ball into the box and found Kallum Smith who scored with a fantastic header. That was our first sign of quality.

“We hoped that would settle us down a bit but we struggled to get tight and they began causing us problems.

“But we defended our box very well and then scored again from another great ball in the box.

“We then did better in and out of possession although we weren’t totally dominant.

“Our third goal was a breakaway from their corner finished off with a great effort from Jordan Hempenstall who chipped their keeper.

“They kept coming at us and got a goal back.

“We went in at half time delighted with the score-line but not happy with the overall performance.

“We told the lads that although they had been clinical we needed to get tighter otherwise we would allow them back into the game.

“In the second half the lads did everything we asked of them.

“We dominated the half and played some great stuff at times.

“It was very pleasing on the eye. The work rate and physicality were on show for all to see.

“Our fourth goal was one that not many players at our level can score.

“A good high ball forward saw Jordan Hempenstall out-strengthen the centre half.

“He brought the ball down with a great touch and then lobbed the keeper. It was a touch of class.

“We could have won by a few more in the end.

“It was a game that Gresley may look at and think how they ended up three down so quickly.

“From our point of view we took our chances and worked harder than them in and out of possession.

“We defended better throughout the game and deserved our win.”
