EVERY CUP HAS A SILVER LINING

Footballers love playing cup matches.

For proof just pop down to Ashby Avenue and ask the players from Lincoln United.

So far this season they have played more cup games than they have in the league.

The score at present is: Cup 13 – League 11

This score-line will be readjusted by the end of next week to: Cup 15 – League 12.

This Saturday the Whites return to league action at home to Gresley FC.

However next Tuesday they host AFC Stamford in the Integro League Cup followed by an away trip to Kidderminster Harriers in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy.

What are the benefits of so much cup football?

Let’s start with the Lincolnshire FA Senior Cup which is now part of the Ashby Avenue trophy collection after a 3-2 win over Stamford in the final.

Sam Wilkinson’s men raised the profile of the club in this competition having taken the scalps of Gainsborough Trinity and Lincoln City, both higher league sides.

An FA Cup run which reached the fourth round qualifying added much-needed coffers to the Whites’ war chest.

The FA Trophy offers further glory on Saturday week against National League North outfit Kidderminster Harriers.

One result of all these matches is the team spirit the players have developed.

Pop down and feel the incredible atmosphere generated at the Sun Hat Villas.

These are exciting times for Lincoln United.

There may be some catching up in the league to be done but the achievements in the cup far outweigh this inconvenience.

Let the Whites’ cup overfloweth  with more glory and success.

ALWAYS LOOK ON THE WHITE SIDE OF LIFE
