Two goals from the lethal left boot of Kallum Smith sent Lincoln United into the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy last night after their 2-0 win over AFC Rushden and Diamonds.
Victory means Sam Wilkinson’s men travel to National League North outfit Kidderminster Harriers in the next round on Saturday week.
The Whites dominated the game from minute one as the visitors could provide no answers to the high-intensity style of play they were facing.
Jake Turner in goal on his home debut made two good saves in the first half but a combination of wayward shooting and solid defence gave him a relatively comfortable night between the sticks.
Kallum Smith on the left wing for United was in relentless form.
After seven minutes he capitalised on a quick throw-in and rifled a left foot shot inside the Diamonds’ far post.
A quarter of an hour later the visitors’ defence could only watch as Smith hit a shot from 20 yards which looped, swerved and dipped into the opposition net.
The final result tended to flatter a Rushden side which was completely overwhelmed by the ruthless determination shown by the Ashby Avenue outfit.
In truth it could well have been 5-0.
Lincoln United receive £3,250 from the FA for the win.
This Saturday it’s a return to league action for the Whites as they welcome Gresley FC to the Sun Hat Villas.
ALWAYS LOOK ON THE WHITE SIDE OF LIFE.
