Lincoln United’s last two matches have resulted in a Cup Final victory and progress to the next round of the FA Trophy.

A 3-2 win at Stamford last Tuesday and a 4-2 victory over Gresley have restored the confidence to an outfit which lost three matches on the bounce a couple of weeks ago.

SportsLinc caught up with Whites’ boss Big Sam Wilkinson for his thoughts.

He said: “On Saturday we carried on where we left off on Tuesday and started the game superbly.

“We knew how they would set up with three at the back and how they like to play out from the back.

“So we pressed them high up the pitch and put pressure on the ball at every possibility.

“The lads carried out the game plan superbly.

“When we had the ball, once again we played some great stuff and when we played one and two touch they struggled to cope with our attacking play.

“We totally dominated the first half and it could have easily been four or five at half time.

“The second half wasn’t as good as the first but it’s always hard to maintain that tempo.

“We had to defend a bit more second half which we did well apart from conceding two sloppy goals.

“It was a great team performance. Everyone played their part but I have to mention Jordan Hempenstall.

“He’s been patient and waited for his chance.

“His attitude has been first class and his performances have added another dimension to the team.

“A very good result and a pleasing performance.

“Some of the football we played was very good but the most pleasing thing for me was the work rate.

“The lads worked so hard.

“We must now focus on the game at Belper on Tuesday.”
