Lincoln United overcame their woes of the past two weeks by last night winning the Lincolnshire FA Senior Cup at Stamford.

The trophy last stood proudly in the cabinet at Ashby Avenue 10 years ago.

SportsLinc caught up with Whites’ boss Sam Wilkinson and asked him about the game.

He said: “After a shaky start and going a goal behind we played some great stuff.

“During the first 20 minutes we looked nervy and slightly off the pace but after losing the last three games that’s normally what happens.

“When we settled down we played some of the best football we have played all season.

“The pitch allowed us to move the ball quickly and find little pockets in midfield which they couldn’t handle at times.

“We just didn’t have the final ball in the first half so we needed to keep going with what we were doing but with more quality in the final third.

“That’s what we did in the second half. The first goal was a brilliant move with eight or nine passes with a great ball in and a great header.

“I thought we dominated the second half although Stamford were very good on the counter and we had to defend well.

“All in all it was a great performance and one we needed which will give us the belief to go on another run now and sort out our league form which needs to improve.

“It’s been 10 years since Lincoln United last won this trophy and I’m so proud to be manager and proud of all the staff and players.

“A special mention must go to all our supporters who came to the game and cheered us on.”
