Lincoln United are in a rich vein of form at the moment and can now look forward to tomorrow’s FA Cup draw to see who they will face in the fourth round qualifying.
Yesterday’s win against Handsworth in front of a crowd of just over 300 was the Whites sixth on the spin and boss Sam Wilkinson spoke to SportsLinc about the performance.
He said: “I am so pleased for the players. They deserve all the credit for a dominant performance.
“I’m also pleased for the volunteers and the Board who put in so much work. Days like yesterday make it all worthwhile.
“There was also a very good crowd to support us which was good to see.
“From the first minute until the last the lads were just top draw.
“Our defence was rock solid which it had to be because they were up against two very good strikers. It was a great battle.
“Yet Hornsey, Wright, Jacklin and Ward were at the top of their game and gave us a solid base to go and dominate the midfield.
“In fact we got the better of their midfield and McGovern and King never gave their defence a second and fought for every ball.
“We dominated Handsworth physically and dominated with our quality.
“Everything we wanted from the players they gave us yesterday.
“There was no way we were going to let an opportunity like this slip through our fingers.
“The first goal was a trademark Norris/Wright combination before Maddison glanced past their keeper to get his first goal for the club on his debut.
“The second goal was great combination work between King and McGovern who hooked over a great cross to find King. He made no mistake in heading into the corner of the net. It was a great header.
“The third came after good work from Smith for McGovern to scrape it under the keeper for his ninth goal of the season.
“It was also his eighth in the FA Cup for Lincoln United putting him closer to getting his name in the Whites’ record book.”
ALWAYS LOOK ON THE WHITE SIDE OF LIFE.
