Former Lincoln United boss Dave Frecklington is now in charge of Spalding United who sit top of the Evo-Stik Division One (South) League.

The Tulips are unbeaten this season and aim to return to winning ways tonight at home to Rugby Town after their 2-2 draw with Gresley FC at the weekend.

SportsLinc caught up with the Frecklington to talk about attitude and mentality in football.

He said: “I think you have to have the right mindset to go Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

“You need to be at it every game and if you drop your standards you will get punished.

“Thankfully for us that hasn’t happened to us apart from in two games when we didn’t start so well though we managed to come back and win.

“Our recruitment ensured we had characters in the squad, something which I learned from my time at Lincoln United.

“When the lads go out on the field they know their jobs and what they have to achieve. They certainly go all out to win.

“The mentality they have shown so far is probably why we are top of the league at present.

“It can’t always come from the bench. It’s got to come from within the changing room.

“We have got 14 really strong leaders in our changing room. If things aren’t going right they will sort things out.

“One thing that has impressed me about this group is that it doesn’t always have to come from us.

“Most of them haven’t won this league and that’s something driving them on just as much as it is us.”
