Former Lincoln United boss Dave Frecklington is now in charge at Spalding United where his team sits top of the Evo-Stik Division One (South League).
A 2-2 home draw on Saturday maintained the Tulips’ unbeaten record so far this season.
SportsLinc caught up with Dave and asked him what it was like when he first took over at Spalding United.
He said: “It was tough to be honest. I didn’t expect it to be as tough as it was.
“We knew they had the foundations there of a good side and we were only hoping to add five or six players. But that wasn’t the case.
“We were left with only four players so we looked at it and thought ‘we’ve got a lot of work to do’.
“We had a lot of trialists in the summer and managed to get five or six of our main targets into the club which was important.
“We had the basis of a good side but it was around the spine of the team we needed to work on.
“In the first few training sessions we looked at the squad and thought ‘ we’re miles away here’.
“Credit to the boys though. We turned it round a little bit and about three weeks before the season we managed to get two boys from Lincoln City on a three months’ loan.
“We also signed Jordan Lemon and Bradley Wells from Stamford.
“We had four pre-season games to get it in the way we wanted to play.
“Credit to the players because our team has not changed once since those pre-season fixtures.
“They’re in every Tuesday and Thursday to work on shape, patterns of play and set-pieces.
“The most important factor when I sat down with every single player and asked them what their ambition was for the season every single one of them said that they wanted to win the league.
“Obviously that matched our ambition as a football club and management team so that married together really well.
“That is reflected in the start we’ve had.”
