FOOTBALL: NETTLEHAM YOUNGSTERS MUCH TO LEARN FROM SEASON OPENER

Nettleham FC Under 18s started their league campaign with a 5-2 defeat at Sibsey Youth FC yesterday despite controlling the game early on.

Nettleham went a goal up after 10 minutes but a defensive lapse presented Sibsey with the equaliser.

A contentious penalty was awarded to the home side which allowed them to take a 2-1 lead into half-time.

Shortly after the break Sibsey hit the Nettleham net again and despite pulling a goal back the visitors came away defeated 5-2.

Manager Scott Russell said: “Our lads’ heads dropped in the second half.

“It was a disappointing performance but it’s a learning curve for the players.

“They should know these are games they should be winning.

“That is exactly what we will look to do in our next match at Fishtoft.”
