I’m not sure how we did it and to be honest I don’t really care but me and my mates down at Lincoln Gladiators put five past title-favourites Grimsdyke on Saturday.
Basher Bill Brayford hit a hat-trick (as well as the opposition’s keeper) in a win that puts us on the winning trail and only 17 points adrift of second-bottom Bleasby Town.
We are on our way up!
In the second half Lanky Larry Lindum performed three Cruyff turns and made their wing back look like a drunken sailor.
Little Tommy Tealby covered every blade of grass on the pitch which was quite an achievement considering we were playing on the local Astro-turf.
This 5-0 win really lifted our spirits and believe me there were plenty of spirits lifted in the pub after the game.
In fact I don’t remember getting home.
I must have done somehow because I recognised my trousers in the front garden when I drew back the curtains on Sunday morning.
Tommy rang and asked if I wanted to meet up in the pub at midday to discuss the game.
Not a good idea, especially when you replay each move at least five times .
It was nine when we staggered into the local curry house to sample the delights of chicken vindaloo and it was midnight when I walked into the ornate cast-iron lamp post the Council had kindly installed.
I have a feeling tomorrow night’s training will be a light session. I hope so anyway.
Too many wins in one season could lead to permanent hangovers and suspect constitutions.
And with 34 matches left I have a feeling it’s going to be a long hot season!
Cheers
Tommy
