Lincoln United’s FA Cup adventure continues after their 2-1 win over league rivals Carlton Town at the Sun Hat Villas stadium yesterday.
It wasn’t all plain sailing for the Whites who were outfought and outplayed in a first half which saw the visitors take the lead after 36 minutes.
A half-time pep talk by boss Sam Wilkinson and his management team must have had the desired effect as the Ashby Avenue outfit equalised on 70 minutes through Gary King.
Jack McGovern sealed the win after 87 minutes with a close-range finish.
The Whites now host Dunkirk FC in the first qualifying round of the cup on 3rd September.
Manager Sam Wilkinson told SportsLinc: “It was another game where we didn’t start well.
“We were really poor in the first half. We showed no passion,no drive and we didn’t work anywhere near hard enough.
“Carlton deserved to take the lead. They were sharper than us all over the pitch.
“We did defend well as we have done in all four games but we really had too much defending to do in the first half.
“At half-time we told the lads a few home truths and told them to forget about their ability and just work harder.
“To be fair they did everything we asked of them.
“They showed more drive and more desire after the break and began to turn things round.
“It was one-way traffic in the second half apart from an edgy last five minutes when Carlton had a couple of chances.
“We just about deserved it in the end.
“We showed great character and determination again.”
Assistant manager Chris Hall added: “We couldn’t have asked for a better reaction from the lads in the second half.
“We dug deep and got the result we wanted. Now we kick on.”
Everyone at SportsLinc says: “ALWAYS LOOK ON THE WHITE SIDE OF LIFE”.
