When Lincoln-born Sam Robinson went on holiday with his grandparents as a youngster little did he dream that one day he would be playing against Colin Montgomerie for a place in the British Open.

Ten-year-old Sam picked up a golf club during that trip to Woodthorpe and now he has the European Golf Tour firmly in his sights.

Sam said: “I used to finish school early to go and play golf which maybe I shouldn’t have done but it’s worked out ok now.

“I turned professional in 2006 after a successful career as an amateur golfer.

“It took me a couple of years to cope with the pressures associated with the game but you get used to it the more you play.

“You would not believe the emotions you go through in golf, from high to low.

“In two minutes you can be tied for the lead and then all of a sudden you make a triple bogey and be five behind.

” It was fantastic playing against Colin Montgomerie . He was great company and fantastic throughout the 36 holes I was with him.

“My aim is to play on the European Tour within three years and my goal after that is to play in the Majors.”

Sam is currently seeking further sponsorship to help with travel and accommodation expenses.
