FOOTBALL: BIG SAM’S AMBITIONS FOR WHITES

Since taking over the reins from former boss Dave Frecklington in the summer Sam Wilkinson has  impressed everyone with his management style and tactics.

Seven pre-season fixtures have seen the Ashby Avenue outfit win five matches, draw one and lose one.

The summer warm-up games included outstanding wins over higher-league Gainsborough Trinity and National League team Lincoln City in the FA County Senior Cup.

The Whites play Stamford AFC in the Senior Cup Final on a date to be announced by the Lincolnshire FA.

SportsLinc caught up with big Sam and posed him a few questions.

Q 1. What ambitions do you have for the Whites this season?

Sam: “We want to build on from last year and try to make the play-offs……..but win promotion this time!”

Q 2. What’s it like being Manager?

Sam: “Being a manager is a lot different to being an assistant manager. My phone is always ringing and I’m answering a lot more texts but so far it’s been really enjoyable and that’s down to the players and staff. They have made my job a lot easier.”

Q 3. What type of football do you hope to play this season?

Sam: “We will play similar to last season but we are looking to try to play a bit more football because most of our players are comfortable on the ball. Also with our attacking options we will be looking to score more goals especially at home.”

Q 4. What’s the atmosphere like at the Sun Hat Villas stadium?

Sam: “The atmosphere is great amongst the players and staff. The board is also very positive. There’s a real buzz about the place at the moment and everyone is looking forward to the new season.

“Our supporters have been great. Coming off the pitch after our 2-0 win over Lincoln city was a nice moment for the players and staff to receive that amount of support.

“A few of the Lincoln City fans also proved we were doing something right!”

The Whites are in action this Saturday at 3pm in the opening match of their 2016-2017 campaign against Leek Town.

Everyone at SportsLinc wishes Sam and the lads all the very best for the new season.
